Bernd Zeugswetter

Bernd was born and raised in Lower Austria where he began climbing and skiing in the Alps from an early age with his parents. Beginning in his teens, he established numerous new routes in Austria – on alpine, rock, ice and mixed terrain – and has since climbed several big walls on Yosemite’s El Capitan. In addition, Bernd has been on expeditions to Peru, Nepal, and Pakistan where in 1998, at age 19, he summitted Gasherbrum II (8035 meters, 26, 361 feet) with his future wife, Hjördis Rickert. Bernd has also attempted Makalu (8463 meters, 27,765 feet) with a fast and light 4-person team.

Bernd is a senior guide with SMI and an internationally certified guide with the UIAGM (IFMGA). He has led many successful trips and ascents in the Sierra Nevada, the Alps, and South America.
