Map & Compass

This course covers the essential skills needed for backcountry navigation. Over a full day hike in the hills we cover how to understand and interpret topographic maps and how they relate to terrain features. We also discuss UTM and Longitude/Latitude to establish accurate coordinates. After getting comfortable with map reading techniques we learn the art of staying found by consistently locating our position using a compass as we employ bi-section and triangulation while enjoying a great day in the outdoors!
