Mt. Emerson is a magnificent peak easily reached off the Paiute Pass trail.  The Southeast Face offers a tremendous alpine climb accessible as a day trip given its location only 2.5 miles from the North Lake trailhead.  The route features a plentiful variety of cracks and face climbing, plus a fun channeled granite gully at the start, and a short ridge traverse leading to its summit.  All of this combined makes this route a true classic alpine experience.  Its lofty summit offers outstanding views stretching west into Sequoia/Kings Canyon, north and south along the Sierra Nevada range, and east past the White Mountains.  Named by John Muir after American philosopher and poet Ralph Waldo Emerson, this route is entirely on high quality white granite and stands out as a true Sierra gem.
